From now on, contact George to add you name to the mid-week skiers list, or you can simply join the mid-week group yourself and post your message on mid-week forum whenever you plan to go up skiing and see if others can join you. More info on our "Trips" page. Hey, a day trip is a trip too!

Searching for the Perfect Ski Watch

Check out some of the features available on watches these days: Altimeter, Compass, Clinometer, Barometer, Stop-watch, and more. And water resistant to 200 meters. Sadly, not all in one watch. Read article.

Mt. High Wall Calendar (click to enlarge)

Do you want a 15-month wall calendar (Oct. 2007 - Dec. 2008) customized with our club photos and with most of our winter trips and PACRAT races already marked?  You can print it straight from our web site, in 2 sizes:

1. Tabloid (11x17") - Very large 4.3 MB PDF

2. Letter  (8.5 x 11") - Large 2.1 MB PDF.

Be prepared to wait a few minutes for the file to open when you first click on it.

PRINTING: If you don't have a printer that can print both sides at once, print all the even pages first, flip the whole stack, and print the odd ones.  Note that half the pages are printed upside down on purpose.  It all falls into place when you fold the printed sheets in half.

Alternatively, if you prefer, Emilio will print these for you, for a small fee (just  to cover the expenses):

   1. Tabloid (11" x 17") = $8.00

   2. Letter  (8.5" x 11") = $4.00

Just email Emilio at Emilio2000@earthlink.net, and let him know the size & number of copies.

We Want You!

We know you have something to contribute to the club.  Organize a party, a hike. a game of cards, a visit to the theater, or just a TGIF. Take your favorite activity and invite other club members to join you. Just let us know what you could do for the club. Or, better yet, come to our monthly planning meeting, any first Tuesday of the month, at the Round Table Pizza.

NW Ski Challenge

Visit all the ski areas within one State (Oregon, Washington, or Idaho) and win a prize!

Also, see David Schor's blog at:

http://skiwashington.blogspot.com

and Emilio's journal on the "Articles" page, at:

Also see last year's Oregon Challenge Diary (a description of all the Oregon ski areas, and the combined experiences of all 3 successful challengers). Read about Warner Canyon, Oregon's best kept secret! And Spout Springs, ... and more. This account will be permanently posted on our Articles page.

NOTE:

There are 3 possible and/or actual conflicts for this event:

a) If Saturday's weather is stormy, the Sno-Kona event at Meadows might be postponed till Sunday.

b) If Sunday's weather is bad, the Palmer lift might not open, so we might consider going to Meadows instead.

c) This same Sunday is our first Mountain High hike of the season. See below for details.

Ski Timberline on Sunday

April 27, 2008 (Sunday)

If Palmer chairlift is open and running this Sunday, lets go for it.  Let's ski all 3,620 vertical feet of pure fun from the top of Palmer to the bottom of the new Jeff Flood Express!

We only have a relatively short window, when the upper lifts open, and the lower ones haven't closed yet.

As usual on such day outings, let's meet at McDonald's in Sandy, around 7:15 - 7:30 am, and we can either drive up together in a caravan, or form carpools on the spot, depending on who shows up.

We might even try skiing the Alpine trail all the way down to Government Camp.

For more info, contact Emilio, info@mthigh.org, or 1-503-510-1477.

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of events during the 3-day Convention. Please see the attached Excel spreadsheet for specific needs. To volunteer, contact Diane Hicks at: diane.hicks@horizonair.com.

Far West Convention

June 5 - 8, 2008

Volunteers and participants are needed for the FWSA Convention, coming up in Bellevue, WA, June 5 - 8, 2008. The Convention is being hosted by our very own NW Ski Club Council. Let’s all help!

Remember we are all part of larger organization. Yes,
we are part of the NW Ski Club Council, ... but also of the Far West Ski Association, which encompasses eleven Councils in Arizona, California, Colorado,
Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington and Utah.

FWSA represents all our local ski clubs, and organizes at least 3 trips every year:
1) the FWSA Ski Week (at Whistler this winter; Big Sky next year);
2) the FWSA International Ski Week (usually in Europe);
3) an International Summer trip (like a trip to China last year, or the Alaska Cruise this year).

FWSA also organizes a number of club competitions
— for best Newsletter, best Web site, Outstanding club, Safety person of the year, Man and Woman of the year, etc. Awards are given at the annual Convention in June.

A big part of the Convention is a Travel Symposium,
where club members can meet with dozens of Ski
Industry representatives and plan future ski trips.
There is also a fun component, in the form of a Pub
crawl, Golf and Tennis tournaments, kayaking, etc.
A number of ski celebrities are usually present. In the
past, we had several of Olympic ski champions, some
extreme skiers, some founders of famous ski areas, the initiator/founder of the Oregon Cancer Ski Out (Larry Chadwick), and more. There are some
rumors that we might see Warren Miller this year, or the Mahre brothers,  or the people who make K2 skis.

So, be part of history, and come attend the Convention in Bellevue, WA. Each year, a different Ski Club Council undertakes the responsibility for
organizing the Convention, and this year it is the NW Ski Club Council’s turn. That’s all of us, NW people!

Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of events during the 3-day Convention. Please see the attached Excel spreadsheet for specific needs. To volunteer, contact Diane Hicks at: diane.hicks@horizonair.com.

See more info about the Convention at:
http://www.fwsa.org/page/page/689570.htm.

To register for the Convention as our club’s delegate,
please send in your registration fee ($135) to Mountain High, using our Dough Transmittal Form, by April 30.

We want YOU!
